I wanted to tell a small story about a city that had built barricades against the creatures in the river below it. This city probably relies on the river and has built up around it, but the black river is also causing lots of problems, such as tentacled monsters pulling down their defences!
So its also a crude metaphor for our civilisation’s reliance on oil. In the future, I would like to incorporate more sophisticated storytelling in my images, whilst still creating aesthetically pleasing work.
Maya, Turtle, 3D Total textures in Photoshop.
Thats the truth!

This began as a work inspired by Moebius' 'Airtight Garage' story, and his colourful, ornamnental style generally. There are elements from some of those frames here.
It developed into an attempt to create a sci-fi themed image whrere the architecture and ornamentation are clearly defined. The atmospheric effects are then controlled seperately afterwards.
Ive revised the texture work in Photoshop a couple of times in order to tie up the misty effects and photgraphic elements. This fantasy theme is influenced by primitive architecture.

I am looking at the pale light at high altitude, the cold atmosphere and foreboding structures. There is also volcanic elements to contrast the cold.

One of my favourite locations in SH Origins was the bowels of the Sanitorium and I already had a lots of great reference imagery for this.
To make this I built a greybox in Maya and rendered it with Final Gather. I then look it to Photoshop to finish.

Observatory Mortar

Early concept work for game 'Haze.' Combining a huge hidden mortar in an old observatory was a great idea. What I like about this design is that the gameplay area would have been really fun to play. There are areas for both short and long range combat whilst little opportunity to back yourself into a corner. I imagined the mortar would intermittantly fire- shaking the screen.

From the screenshots Ive seen online it looks like this location might have made it into the game, although with some flourescent lights added!
